October 2007 - January 2008
The building programmed is a new single story facility measuring approximately 7,500 square feet and will house the Mesa County Animal Services administrative staff as well as necessary animal support space (i.e. various kennel areas, quarantine rooms, animal exam rooms, isolation rooms, etc...). The current Animal Services Building is currently receiving noise complaints from surrounding residential communities with respect to the dogs barking at their facility. An in depth acoustical study was done specific to this scenario and design recommendations were made. Conceptual floor plans and site plans were developed to verify that the recommended space requirements were sufficient, to give an example of how the facility could be designed with respect to the acoustical recommendations, and to demonstrate how the concepts of Universal Design could be implemented in such a unique application. Refer to images above for examples of each.
